The intermediate seminary DEHON BHAVAN, which was built on 1997 is
now occupied by 35 seminarians and some members of formation staffs.
The rector, Fr. Martin v.Ooij, is accompanied by Fr. Abraham, plus a
brother (Xavier) and three fathers (Lenin, Bhaskar, Leenjos). This
year, for the first time, an activity was held to enliven the
missionary spirit, for both seminarians and for the surrounding
Catholic community. The chapel from this seminary is an ancient holy
place – St. Antonius from Padua is the protector – built about 400
years ago during the Portuguese era. The surrounding communities like
to attend the Holy Mass, not only on Sunday, but also during the
weeks. So, St. St.Georgius Parish could be proud that amongst 24 areas
which are included in the parish, there is one (called "Unit 24"),
where the religious members were really active and having their own
identity and chapel, it is the chapel owned by the SCJ Seminary.
Mission Week on 24 October 2010 was celebrated commonly by the
communities in St.Georgius parish. However, Unit 24 would like to do
something different, thus, they plan to held “Second Mission Week” on
October 31. Everything was prepared before. First, finding stuffs for
the auction. Then, finding ingredients for cooking breakfast, which
would be sold. All were reached by the seminaries who asked for
assistances to the communities by going around door to door. Third,
collect the ticket money from the participants of kids’ run race and
badminton match for the seminarians. Everything would be donated to
the Diocese mission commission under the name of Unit 24.
The day was sunny, no rain at all, although the roads are still filled
by water due to the rain poured in the previous days. The activity
began by a Mass lead by Fr. Martin v.Ooij accompanied by 4 SCJ
Priests. Each concelebrant was introduced as “missionary” although
most of them are coming from Kerala. Finally, the communities were
realized that they are also missionaries – something which is
automatically attached on each person since they are baptized. (Rm.
Martin is really good in making one feels good!). From the chapel, it
was 9am, thus, the breakfast should be prepared. The sales were very
good and the income was about IDR 1,008,600. The sport match began.
Income from the ticket IDR 1,046,000,-. After being deducted from the
administration, the net income was IDR 2,141,600,-, it was donated to
the Action Commission of Mission Week – Cochin Diocese. Of course, it
was not the money as the main success indicator of this Mission Week,
but it was hearten to show the existing potential to work together as
a cohesive community – it would be the base for next year’s program.
Proficiat to the committee – seminarian staffs and the seminarians
themselves.
